What is the real story behind their cannibalism??? I think, no one has even investigated the cause of their cannibalism and crime!!!. What is the basic cause ??? either Poverty, Hunger and lack of basic necessities of life??? Does Poverty Cause these types of Crimes? Throughout history statistics have shown that poorer areas are more crime stricken than richer ones. I think it's safe to assume that most crimes start out as a crime out of necessity. History has proven that there is a direct link between poverty and crime. The government has yet to recognize the importance of balancing the economic makeup of its innercity and urban areas. More money is spent on imprisoning those who commit crime than is spent on fixing the problems that cause the crimes. Given the opportunity, many of these people would become productive citizens in the labor force, but all too often the means to do so are just not there. The lack of decent-paying employment, housing and education will cause many at the poverty level to turn to whatever means are available. Whether it is taking from others, selling drugs or ripping off welfare, most people are just trying to get by. Is it crime? Yes. Is it acceptable? No. But as long as there is poverty, there will be crime. I think that it would be more productive for criminals if they were rehabilitated instead of sitting in a jail cell waiting out lengthy sentences. I think that criminals can change their ways through a rehabilitative system that focuses on changing bad behavior through therapists and becoming better citizens who are productive in society. Now, what do you think is the solution to stop this vicious circle of poverty and crime? What the Government is doing about it? In my opinion, emphasis should be made on giving labour to these people outside the system. But for that, we need to offer public and quality education. Yet I'm conscious that a malnourished child is not going to be able to be properly educated, is he?. So what can we do to ensure that child will have a better future? It's difficult to come up with a solution, but we're in the 21st Century now, it's about time we stopped poverty.
